Almost here...

... monsoon season is almost upon us!

Gratuitous sunset photo here at SKP Saguaro Co-op in Benson, AZ...
nothing to do with the monsoon forecast.

I suppose if you made your home in India or Thailand you would find our use of 'monsoon' a little- mmm... overstated. But our summer weather pattern meets the criteria: prevailing winds that originate over the Pacific Ocean then travel inland before turning a little North to follow loosely the East-face of the Rocky Mountains toward Canada while also spreading East to Great Lakes. This annual occurrence is the primary source of moisture for those of us living down here in the San Pedro Valley of Eastern Arizona. Well, the monsoon and the San Pedro River which flows North out if Mexico into the USA.

And fwiw*, the San Pedro River is the only river to flow North out of Mexico into the USA. So now you know.

This is what NWS (National Weather Service) has to say about 2025 monsoon here in Arizona-

2025 NWS forecast for Arizona. Tucson is the nearest location to Benson.

So if I'm to believe this NWS forecast for monsoon season it looks like we're going to be hotter than normal and simultaneously wetter than normal. Tucson is the nearest reporting location and it says 5.69" of rain from 1 Jul thru the end of Sep. We wouldn't see as much rain as Tucson but...we'll see.

  1. Bring on the rain!

  2. We go thru this agony every year. The waitress at the old Cloverleaf on 4th St said '6 July' and that seems to be the magic number no mater how hard I try with wishes, prayers and voo-doo curses!
