Uh-oh... the 'season' has started!

We (mmm... I! ) drifted thru the whole summer and didn't give much thought to it ending. Hard to realize summer is officially over in about 10 days when we are still hitting temps in the 100s! But there it is.

Cruising-friends-turned-RVers who publish conchscooter.blogspot.com are in the Southern hemisphere dealing with van renovations. That's about as close as we get to being on the road. Well- not counting driving to appointments in Tucson. Appointments in Benson don't count as the engine hardly gets warmed up before we arrive!

And today, as I type this post, is the 25th anniversary of 9-11. The Admiral and I were in the Herrington Harbor Marina in Maryland on that infamous day. We were prepping Goosebumps so we could leave for points South. We needed haircuts and made our way across the street to the shop where we went mid-week. We stepped inside and were greeted by some very somber faces. The staff had the TV on and we stepped in about 5 minutes before the 2nd Trade Tower was hit. The woman cutting my hair had a husband who was working on a delivery truck headed toward Washington, DC that day. She couldn't reach him (he was fine but stuck in chaotic traffic). The whole communication system was overwhelmed for the Washington, DC and New York City areas... no calls getting thru in that area (and probably the rest of the US).

Goosebumps on a grey day prior to leaving Herrington Harbor for points South.

We were hauled out at the boat yard very near the marina shortly after 9-11 (the 16th I believe). We were prep'ing to leave for Florida and the Keys. The trip South, about 6 weeks later in October, was a somber event as boat owners on the ICW were overly 'courteous' to one another. That seemed to diminish the further we moved South of the Chesapeake on the ICW. Our marina in Herrington Harbor was about 40 miles East of Washington, DC and about 25 miles South Annapolis, MD.

We were on our boat in Herrington Harbor Marina (red marker) when the planes hit the Trade Towers in New York City and the Pentagon just West of Washington, DC.

Anyway... a sure fire way to confirm that the season is changing is to keep track of the number of leaseholders here in the park. But they are making it harder now. The park used to publish that number daily but recently stopped. Dunno what that's about.. ?? Maybe somebody decided it was some sort of security risk though I can't imagine why. So that leaves me with climbing in the cart and driving around to see how many sites are occupied. And count those sites? No way

Anyway... somber day here in the land of coyotes, rattle snakes, vultures and cactus. Mmm... and mesquite. Lots of mesquite! Oh- and tarantulas. And hawks. Plus the raven... lots of ravens!

    1. I was here in AZ and just getting ready for work when the first plane hit. The radio DJ broke into the music and saint to turn on the TV.
Mornings here are finally getting cool, long sleeves for my 5:30 AM walk and I haven’t seen any of those critters.
