Getting out of hand around here...

We made it thru the spring and summer here at the RV park without issue. And in large part so too did the other summer residents. With the troubling news about the pandemic causing closure of restaurants and places with people, our board of directors wisely closed the club house and its kitchen. The park stayed that way till the winter season started (officially 15 Oct).

Now we have leaseholders visiting after being gone since last season. Since their arrival there's a push to have business as usual. So... what does that mean?

  • It means they want the usual board meeting (the park's board of directors have open meetings which leaseholders are invited to attend). They are doing that via Zoom as I understand it and that's a good thing. Except the first meeting occurred in the outdoor environment of Founder's Park and some leaseholders were attending. Then it turned cold and meetings had to move indoors.
  • We still have no meals being served in the clubhouse (a good thing) and no evening entertainment (another good thing). But the board has decided that the choir can practice in the clubhouse if they keep some spacing. Never mind that singing in a loud voice does a great job of launching the virus toward anyone nearby.
  • It also means that wearing a mask is recommended but not required (really?!).

Which brings me to my whine for this post-

The Admiral was out walking her favorite dog here at the park named Sofie. Sofie belongs to our friend Steve. Steve leaves her with us if he has to leave the park for some reason longer than a few hours (holiday, medical procedure, bored, whatever). Sofie is a sweetheart and the Admiral has fun walking her.

Saturday (14 Dec) the Admiral was masked up and had Sofie on a lead as she walked down the 2nd row not far from Steve's lot. A mask-less guy stopped and greeted Sofie and gave her a few pats as he and the Admiral exchanged a few words. She finished her walk and dropped off Sofie and came back to our place. A couple hours later the Admiral learned that the guy who patted Sofie is the husband of a woman who has tested positive for COVID-19.

So now the right thing to do is quarantine ourselves. We won't be able to get tested cuz (locally) they are only testing those that are exhibiting symptoms. And of course we won't have symptoms for 10 to 14 days. Apparently others in this situation have been told to quarantine for 10 days during which time they will show symptoms if they are actually positive for COVID. At that point they can be tested to confirm the suspicion.

All this cuz some guy doesn't give a shit about others. Well thank you very much! And oh-by-the-way this guy is full time in the park...not one of the snow birds who I promptly assume are offenders (mea culpa!).

Enough of that. In a different tone...

... before the Admiral got home I had done some more roasting. I had roasted almost 5 pounds on Tuesday for a friend in OR (plus 1# of an espresso blend for my neighbor). I had wanted to include some Chiapas but had run out. Then on Tuesday evening I received a shipment from Coffee Bean Corral in MS that included a fresh 25# bag of Organic Chiapas.

So on Sunday I did 4# more which included 2# of Chiapas and 2# of Ethiopian Organic Yirgacheffe... the latter being a favorite cold weather brew for us.

But now the new dilemma: how can I ship coffee to our friend in OR when we are quarantined?! I guess that makes me a day late and a dollar short for shipping Gordon's Christmas gift. I better start practicing my grovel! [Sorry Gordon.]
